Allergy Sufferer

Of course, there are many possible reasons for these symptoms, do you simply shrug them off as ‘they’re just my allergies‘ but don’t do anything about them?

End Your Allergies Forever!™… with AllergiEnd™

Allergies are over-reactions by your immune system to what are called allergens (such as dust, pollens, grass, molds, or animal dander) causing a reaction that may affect your lungs, nose, skin, eyes, cardiovascular system, or gastrointestinal tract.

The first step to ending your allergies forever is to find out exactly which allergens are causing your annoying and debilitating symptoms.

How?

Initially you’ll require a broad skin test which is the best and quickest method of testing for allergic reactions to substances, or allergens, in the environment. The test consists of introducing small amounts of allergens into the skin and noting the development of a positive reaction, which consists of a wheal (swelling) and flare (surrounding area of redness). Tree, grass and weed pollens common to our region will be tested in addition to a variety of mold spores, household irritants like dust mites, animal dander and certain common foods.

Animal DanderCat Hair

Mite Farinae

Why Test for Allergies?

Testing allows us to determine how likely it is that allergens play a role in your symptoms. Some conditions like non-allergic rhinitis, food allergy, infection or gastric reflux may produce symptoms identical to allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and can be difficult to distinguish without testing. Another important reason for testing is identification of your specific allergic triggers. Identifying your triggers is critical for serious allergy sufferers since one of the keys to effective treatment is AVOIDANCE of those triggers. Testing is also the first step in formulating an alternative therapy to traditional allergy medications called immunotherapy, which may offer effective long term suppression of allergic disease.

How is the Skin Test Performed?

Your provider will use a skin test which involves applying several non-invasive plastic testing applicators to your back. The devices have no needles and do not break the skin. A total of 70 allergens are placed on your back via the plastic applicators as well as a small amount of histamine to make sure your skin is capable of producing a normal, visible skin reaction. Skin reactions are measured after 20 minutes. Itching, redness and wheals (small, itchy lumps) indicate sensitivity to a particular allergen or a normal response to histamine.

Applying applicator

Are there Any Side Affects to Skin Testing?

Skin testing is not painful and usually well tolerated other than itching and redness. Your provider will discuss further potential side affects based on your personal medical history.

What Treatments are recommended if I’m found to be allergic from the skin test?

Immunotherapy, in particular Sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) is a natural allergy remedy that desensitizes your body to allergens by regular administration of gradually increasing doses of allergens in the area under your tongue in order to induce tolerance to allergens responsible for your symptoms. As treatment progresses, your immune system learns to tolerate and then ignore these allergens, making your life much easier all year round and especially more enjoyable during the allergy season! Your doctor will tell you more about these treatment options after your skin test.

If I’m found to be allergic and commence treatment how often should I get retested?

Once each year. Re-testing helps you and your Doctor monitor your improvement.

What if my children have allergy symptoms?

Is there an age limit for testing and treatment?

No. The test is safe for children of any age.

Should we test and treat young children?

Absolutely! Young children tolerate testing and treatment extremely well. There is a rare opportunity with young children to actually stop the well-known progression of allergies into asthma. This is the most effective path to a healthy future for children suffering from allergies!

What are the biggest advantages of SLIT?

It’s safe for children and adults; convenient because it’s administered at home and takes just two minutes per day; painless and easy; ideal for frequent travelers, who can take the drops anywhere; and very cost effective.

Enviromental Factors

Allergy Triggers

Allergy Triggers
The environment is rich with items that can trigger off your allergies.

Pollens from trees, grass, weeds, and plants (worst for sufferers during pollinating seasons)

Pollen
Have you ever rolled in the grass and then started itching? It’s allergies. The worst offenders are Bermuda, Johnson, Kentucky bluegrass, and Timothy grasses. When you mow your lawn, the pollen flies everywhere and can even attach and hide on you clothes and on your pets, so vacuum and shower frequently.
Tree pollen also causes trouble for allergy suffers, especially: sycamore, pecan, cottonwood, box elder, red maple, ash, and queen palm trees. Removing these trees from your garden may be of little help to allergies; tree pollen can travel up to 50 miles on a strong wind.
Weeds are not only the bane of existence to gardeners, but also allergy sufferers, as they are regular pollen producers. Ragweed is the worst offender, as one Ragweed plant can release over 1 million grains of pollen each day. Other offenders are pigweed, lamb’s quarters, Russian thistle (tumbleweed) and English plantain.

Mold (causes allergy problems all year round, and especially bad in wet seasons)

Mold
Mold reproduces when airborne spores land on wet surfaces, so any room in your house with moisture is vulnerable, especially those that don’t dry thoroughly (like bathrooms, kitchen counters, showers and bathtubs). Also, plumbing water leaks could cause major problems to your health if they’re not fixed immediately.

Animal Dander (causes allergy problems all year round)

Animal Dander
It’s not actually animal hair that causes allergies, it’s certain protein in their saliva. When animals lick themselves, the protein attaches to their fur. When animals shed their fur it sticks in the carpet, upholstery, etc. This same protein found in saliva is also present in animals’ urine.
Pets aren’t the only problem. Cockroaches also contribute large allergen particles to the area around us. Proteins in their saliva and feces become airborne and circulate through the air without your knowledge.

Dust Mites (causes allergy problems all year round)

Dust Mites
Dust mites float through the air or reproduce in carpeting and bedding, the protein in their droppings pollute the environment and cause year round problems for many allergy sufferers. Vacuuming, dusting with a damp cloth, washing bedding sheets and changing pillows regularly can help but, unfortunately, dust mites are hard to completely avoid.

Universal Sublingual Immunotherapy by AllergiEnd™

AllerEnd™ – End Your Allergies Forever!™

You’re undertaking the AllergiEnd™ Skin Test because you and your provider want to uncover if your sniffles, itchy eyes, cough, runny nose, sore throat, itchy skin, rash or hives, headaches, bronchitis or asthma symptoms are as a result of allergic reactions to substances such as tree or plant pollen, grass, mold, dust mites, animal dander or a food. Like a blood tests that let’s your physician understand how the various organs in your body are functioning, the AllergiEnd™ Skin Test provides your doctor with the knowledge to understand if you condition relates to an allergic condition.

A recent report showed 54 percent of people between five and fifty-nine years of age had a positive test to at least one or more common allergens, the problem is most people have no idea what allergens specifically they are allergic to.

If your test shows that your condition is related to an allergic reaction, your doctor has elected to use a new, highly effective treatment method called sublingual immunotherapy or SLIT for short. Unlike allergy shots, SLIT is a self-administered treatment that you can do at home. It does not require the typical weekly or bi-weekly visit to the doctor’s office for a shot and then waiting around to see if you had an adverse reaction to the concentrated shot. This technology has been around for over 60 years but has been slow to gain awareness, yet it is safer, less painful and patients find that it is easier to maintain the therapy vs. visiting the doctor’s office for shots every week, bi-weekly or monthly. The net effect is that patients on the AllerEnd™ Universal SLIT treatment not only save time and money, experience less pain and inconvenience, but because they find the program easier to maintain on a sustained basis they will experience more effective relief from their allergies. End your allergies forever!™

Medication – are your getting to the source of the problem?

The goal of virtually all prescription and over-the counter allergy medications is to stop allergy symptoms temporarily. Pharmaceuticals do nothing to relieve the CAUSE of your allergies, which is why your misery returns every time you encounter allergens your body doesn’t like or the pill you’re taking has worn off. Moreover, taking a medication for your allergy symptoms may temporarily relieve your allergy symptoms, but the side effects may almost be as bad. Look at the labels of some of these medications and review the warnings they provide. “Do not drive or operate heavy machinery”…does anyone ever ask why do they say that? And what about the fog they create in your head while you are sitting at your desk? Trying to get through the day on these pills might, at times, be worse than the allergy itself!

Unlike chemical medications (antihistamines, nasal sprays and steroid shots), AllerEnd™ Universal SLIT oral drops are designed to treat the cause of your allergies by strengthening your immune threshold (tolerance) thereby decreasing your sensitivity to the environmental allergens such as pollens (grass, trees, weeds), dust, mold, dander and animal hair we are testing you for.

Consider Immunotherapy – the only current way to desensitize your immune system to allergies

With the cost of prescription medications getting higher and higher, many patients find that immunotherapy not only works better for them, but also saves them money. These savings are even more pronounced when you factor in the cost of lost work and decreased productivity many allergy sufferers experience.

With immunotherapy, you orally receive a form of vaccination against a broad spectrum of allergens. The vaccine prompts the body to make natural antibodies, which gradually increase immunity to the culprits. It is based on the same vaccination science that most of immunology is based. It is the only therapy that doesn’t just treat allergy symptoms but gets at the cause. It is the closest thing we have to a cure for the misery and inconvenience of allergies. Most people also feel that it makes them more alert and productive, as well as less likely to get sick. In addition to treating the original allergy, patients successfully treated with SLIT immunotherapy are less likely to develop new allergies and are also less likely to develop many of the serious secondary complications, such as asthma, sinusitis and ear infections, commonly associated with allergies.

AllerEnd™’s Universal Sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) with oral drops is a safe and effective medication that builds your body’s resistance to allergens. This is accomplished over a period of time by regular administration of gradually increasing doses of allergens in the area under your tongue. As treatment progresses, your immune system learns to tolerate and then ignore these allergens, making your life much easier all year round and especially more enjoyable during the allergy season!

SLIT has been popular throughout the world for over 60 years. In the comfort of your home, you simply place a few drops of serum under your tongue every day, in the morning and in the evening. By your first follow-up with your provider, you’ll likely notice a marked improvement. Within a few months you should realize a significant reduction in the need for allergy medications. And, in three years, if you are like most patients you will experience complete remission of your environmental allergies.

Your provider will tell you more about these treatment options after your skin test results are known.

Sublingual Immunotherapy Frequently Asked Questions

How does sublingual immunotherapy work?

Low doses of harmless allergens are placed under your tongue where they are absorbed by tiny capillaries. These allergens then attach to special immune messenger (dendritic) cells, which in turn affect your helper white blood cells in ways that reduces and/or eliminates allergies and related symptoms.

When should I start to see results and how long will they last?

80% of patients see significant reduction in symptoms by the end of the third week of sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) treatment. By the time you come in for the follow up at 4-8 weeks, you’ll likely be feeling much better and already taking much less of your usual allergy medications. The length of relief varies from person to person but most patients experience significant improvement for at least 10-15 years if they follow the immunotherapy regime for 2-3 years. For some, it will be significantly longer!

Can I stop taking allergy medications when I start drops?

You should stay on allergy medications at the start of SLIT, as your symptoms require. At the first follow-up visit (about 4-8 weeks after treatment begins) you may find you have already started feeling so much better by the first visit that you are no longer medication-dependent.

Is sublingual immunotherapy treatment FDA approved?

The allergens in the treatment are FDA approved for use in shots/ injections. Sublingual therapy is an “off label” use. It is similar to using Albuterol in children, or giving baby aspirin to prevent heart disease. Sublingual application is clinically proven to be safer than injections and is endorsed by the World Health Organization.
This method of treating allergy is the preferred method in Europe, where the treatment of allergies by injection has been banned.

How often do I need to be seen by my healthcare provider?

About every 3 months after the first follow up visit at 4-8 weeks after you begin SLIT. On these follow-up visits your provider will give you a quick exam, discuss your progress, and prescribe your refill. The drops should last 28 days, but since a drop is not a precise measure the supply may last a bit longer or run out a bit sooner. Come in when you need to.

How often will I get retested?

Once each year. Re-testing helps you and your provider evaluate your improvement. It is important, though, to understand that the skin test is just one measure in the assessment of progress toward overall immune system desensitization.

How long do I stay on SLIT?

Approximately three years. If you are unable to complete the treatment, the allergen resistance will last a few weeks or months after treatment is discontinued. You will be able to restart treatment at any time, but if several months have passed you may be advised to restart at the first stage of treatment.

Do the drops work on food allergies?

They do not target food allergies and will not be effective against severe reactions to foods. However, some patients complain of itchy mouth or runny nose with certain foods. This syndrome is often not actually a food allergy but a symptom of cross-reactivity with common allergens and it will likely improve significantly with SLIT.

Why aren’t drops covered by insurance?

FDA-approved allergens were approved for injections, not sublingual delivery. Sublingual drops are proven to be safer than injections, but SLIT is still considered an “off label” use. If you have a health savings account you can use this pre-tax money to buy your SLIT oral drops. Your AllergiEnd™ test, however, is typically fully covered by your insurance or Medicare.

How safe is sublingual immunotherapy?

Drops are extremely safe, with rare, and mild, side effects. There are no fatalities reported. SLIT has been used for over 30 years worldwide.

If I am on shots, can I transition to drops?

Yes! Talk to your allergy treatment provider; you’ll find the transition is quick and seamless and could start immediately!

What if I miss a dose of drops?

If you miss one dose, or even a few, you can pick up where you left off. If the drops are discontinued for more than one month you may be advised to restart the treatment process.

What if I take more than the regular dose?

SLIT oral drops are NOT medication and have no additives, so there is generally no reason to be concerned. However, it’s important to watch closely for signs of allergic reaction. Go to the emergency room (ER) immediately if you feel symptoms of severe allergic reaction.

What if my child gets a hold of the bottle and drinks it?

SLIT drops are essentially grass, weeds, pollen, etc. and are completely nontoxic; there is generally no reason to be concerned if a child consumes them. But watch closely for signs of allergic reaction and take your child to the ER if he/she develops signs of reaction.

What if my pet chews up the bottle and swallows the drops?

The ingredients of SLIT drops are part of a pet’s normal life so there is usually no reason to worry if your pet consumes them. However, if your pet shows signs of allergic reaction, take it to the vet immediately.

Is there an age limit for testing and treatment?

No. Small children maybe tested for fewer antigens than older children and adults, but the test is safe for children of any age. Since it doesn’t use needles and is painless the tolerance level for both the child and parent is much higher.

Should we really test and treat young children?

Absolutely! Young children tolerate testing and treatment extremely well. There is a rare opportunity with young children to actually stop the well-known progression of allergies into asthma. This is the most effective path to a healthy future for children suffering from allergies!

What are the biggest advantages of SLIT?

It’s safe for children and adults; convenient because it’s administered at home and takes just two minutes per day; painless and easy; ideal for frequent travelers, who can take the drops anywhere; very cost effective.

Is there anything else I can do to minimize by allergies?

YES. Eliminate Allergens Around Your Home:

  1. Keep your pet away from carpeted rooms, sleeping areas, upholstered furniture and other places where it becomes difficult or impossible to remove dander.
  2. If dust mites are a problem, remove drapes and other dust gathering items and treat upholstered furniture and carpeting. Wash linens and dust with a moist cloth frequently.
  3. Keep windows closed during the peak allergy season, especially on windy days.

But is avoidance all that’s it’s cracked up to be?

Sometimes you simply can’t avoid the things that cause allergies, and this approach is not always practical or desirable. For instance, you may be able to remove offending plants from your home but pollen can travel up to 50 miles, so you are always vulnerable to trees, flowers and weeds from your neighborhood and city. Animals that cause allergies may be taken away but their dander can remain in a home for up to six months; if you visit a home with pets, their hair stays when they’re not present. Additionally, even thorough efforts to clear your home of allergens can fall short against relentless household dust, cockroaches or hidden mold. Therefore, avoidance is a major challenge and it can significantly impact your quality of life (especially if you like the animals, trees and flowers that cause your allergies).
